The Word of God

There are different ways to discipline and get the attention of one who has erred. As a child growing up, as far as I knew, we surely got whooped when we got in trouble with our parents. It was as sure as the sun rising in the morning. And it was effective – see, I turned out okay. LOL. Simple message – misbehave and get whooped! Sometimes we didn’t understand why, and we didn’t dare to ask. Just take your whooping as a good soldier and don’t misbehave again. LOL.

As a mother with young kids whom I absolutely love, I’m learning that there is more than one way to discipline. (Learning – because I still haven’t got this motherhood thing down to a T. I’m not a perfect mum yet). In fact there are multiple ways. I sometimes struggle with what kind of discipline to apply and how much of it? And whether it’s effective in ensuring that learning has taken place. And when I struggle, I pray. I have made two important learnings this week:

  1. God is indeed a very present help in time of need. No matter the need. I cry out to Him for wisdom on how to handle the situation at hand. And He helps me. Gives me wisdom, guides my words, directs me on how to go about it. I’m so grateful that God is always available whenever I call on Him.
  2. God’s word is powerful. It can reprove and convict even the youngest of hearts. It can convict the hardest hearts too. It can break down barriers, comfort, counsel, guide, instruct, just name it.

And He knows it! That’s why He tells us in 2 Timothy 3: 16-17 (GNB)

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful[a] for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living,17 so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed.”

What more can I add to that?

Have a great week!

Shalom
