Cast Your Burdens Unto Jesus

What burdens do you carry? A burden means a heavy load. So I’ll ask again – what is weighing heavy on your heart and stealing your joy? Is it fear, anxiety, grief, disappointment, or hurt?

Before you pick it up again this morning, stop and ask – do you really need to lift those heavy burdens? Are you like I was then, suffering because you have simply not connected the dots?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Mathew 11:28-30

It used to be so exhausting hauling those heavy bags around. My intentions were good, just not very smart. Now that I think about it, I have to ask – what was I thinking??

I work a flexible job which means I get to move around a lot and work from anywhere. And because I still want to be able to do my own stuff (that’s a story for another day!) I move around with my laptop and my work laptop! 2 laptops – and my work laptop, a MacBook Pro is well, heavy!

And so I toiled day after day, aching shoulders, strained back, wearing myself out even though I had the best intentions.

One day, the light bulb went off: there should be a better/smarter way to do this! I should not have to be the weirdo at the library who has 2 laptops sprawled across her desk!

I have a Dropbox account and a Onedrive account. Both cloud based options that can let me work from anywhere really. Both options can allow me access my files from any computer and work on them – eliminating the need to log around 2 laptops!

Why did I punish myself like that? Because I didn’t know that these options could make my life easier. No, actually, I knew, but I hadn’t connected the dots. And so I suffered, literally.

Let Him Carry Your Burdens

The Lord says to bring your heavy burdens to Him. His yoke is easy and His burden is light. You don’t have to carry that load – whatever it might be. Drag it to the feet of Jesus and leave it there! When I exchange my burdens for His, I start my day knowing that the joy of the Lord is my strength.

So today I pray, Lord open our eyes. Let us connect the dots and see from a fresh perspective. Show us new, better, and more efficient ways to serve you and to go about life.

Help us not to carry unnecessary burdens, wearing ourselves out needlessly. Your yoke is easy and your burden is light. Let your lightness and your joy fill our hearts and lives today and always.

Amen
