“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. . .” (Psalm 23:5)
I am not really sure why I have always glossed over this verse – never really given thought to the table and enemies connection. As a full blooded African, born and raised on that wonderful, vibrant continent, the word ‘enemies’ conjures up quite vivid mental imagery!
But today, we won’t limit the description of enemies to the ‘people who fly at night’, LOL. Lets think about the enemies that wage war on our souls, on the peace that is ours in Christ Jesus, on the precious Salvation freely given to us by God.
Let think about Fear, Sin, Anxiety, Anger, Unforgiveness, Bitterness, Shame, Stress and every thing else the Devil has uses to hold us bound & keep us from enjoying all that God has prepared for us.
I read this verse when I was going through a tough time, and it gave me such comfort! Lord, prepare a table for me in the midst of my hurt, confusion, tears, pain. Fete me even with all that’s going on around me.
I’ve always thought that a good day was one with no difficulty. I’m learning differently – a good day is one in which I can recognize, embrace, rejoice in and enjoy God’s grace, goodness, gifts, mercies. One in which I can enjoy all that the Lord has set before me, even in the face of all the challenges I face.
It does require a change of perspective, but a good day does not have to be sans-adversity. It can still be a great day, with all the mountains falling into the sea. I will only need to look to the Source of my help.
Don’t let all the drama in your life keep you from enjoying God’s best! Sit at the table the Lord has prepared for you. Acknowledge and enjoy His blessings and His mercies upon your life. Even in the presence of your enemies.
So today, I wish you a good day. A great day. May the lines fall for you in pleasant places. May the Lord prepare a table for you in the midst of the madness. May we be wise enough to sit at the Lord’s table and enjoy His feast – joy unspeakable and pleasures for ever more.
Shalom
