Psalm 94:17-18
When I thought, “My foot slips,” your steadfast love, O LORD, held me up. (NIV)
It’s the season to be jolly! Oh, how I love Christmas. Not just because its a wonderful reminder of God’s generous gift of salvation, but because of the joy, camaraderie, colours, time with family and great memories that we make at this time of the year.
It’s the end of the year as well, always a good time to reflect on the outgoing year and the incoming year.
Self assessments are not always pleasant. Sometimes, it does look like we have not achieved any of the goals we set for ourselves at the start of the year. It’s easy to take our eyes off all the blessings so freely given by God, blessings given sometimes before we even asked in prayer.
As this year draws to a close, are you so focused on all the things that are not going right in your life? Do you feel overwhelmed, like you are falling or failing? Are you struggling to hold on, telling yourself you probably cannot make it?
Today’s verse is for you – let God’s steadfast love support you and hold you up. I was thinking about this the other day and it hit me – did you realize that God’s love is the same always? It never changes! He loved me yesterday just as much as He loves me today and just as much as He will love me tomorrow.
Now think about that, this love ain’t going nowhere. When you think you are falling, stumbling, overwhelmed or about to hit rock bottom, remember God’s steadfast, consistent, same-every-day love is there to catch you.
Merry Christmas.
