Proverbs 3: 7-8

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones. (NIV)

What exactly does it mean to be wise in my own eyes? Is there anything wrong with using my initiative? I read these verses and I see a God who wants His people to rely completely on Him. I read these verses and hear Him say, ‘don’t think you know it all, don’t think you don’t need me!’

He definitely isn’t a control freak, but a Father who loves us very much. He sees the end from the beginning, when we can’t even see beyond the present moment. Therefore, relying on Him is actually a very smart thing to do.

In every area of our lives, God desires that we replace our ways, methods and strategies with His ways, methods and strategies. He wants us doing things His way, not ours. God’s ways are not hidden or obsure. They’re written in His word, expanded in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

I pray that as we take time out to search His word for His ways, methods and strategies, grace will be abundantly available for us to do as we learn.

Amen.
