(Hebrews 9:28, ESV)
Will Our Lord Jesus Come Again?
Yes, the Bible says so, clearly and we would do well to stay ready for Him. We read this verse during our family devotion some nights ago and tried to talk about what eagerly waiting would mean to each of us. All agreed it meant waiting expectantly, anxiously, being sure that what you are waiting for will show up. We are sure that Jesus will come again – and so we wait – eagerly.
When you are eagerly waiting for someone to show up, you watch closely. Every sound on the door, every knock, every telephone ring, heightens your eagerness for his arrival. You get ready, put things in order, fix the house, cook a favorite meal – because you want to impress as well.
I remember a newly-married lady we knew whose husband would go away for work frequently. When it was time for him to return home, she almost did our heads in with all the excitement. Not only did she have a daily count down put up across her social media accounts but the day before he would return, she would also put up pictures of flower petals strewn on their bed for us all to see. She would post pictures of welcome home outfits and all. It was all she could talk about! Her excitement was palpable even though we rolled our eyes at all the drama.
Our Lord Jesus will come again. How are you waiting for the Lord’s return? Expectantly? Do you even think about it? Life gets insanely busy, I know. But this is important. He will return and we must be ready for Him. We must be looking out for Him, waiting excitedly and expectantly like the new bride. As Christians, we must adjust our lives accordingly – in line with this expectation. We must live our lives in obedience to His Word so that He will find us ready when He comes.
