2 Corinthians 9:7

‘. . . God loves a cheerful giver.’

Why are we so afraid to give to God? Is it because we can’t see Him physically, or we don’t trust Him completely enough?

Many years ago, I was terrified of praying ‘not my will, but yours be done’. I would never say that to God. You see, I didn’t trust Him enough to be certain that He wanted my well being. I didn’t trust His intentions for me, although I claimed to love and worship Him. After all, what if He decided to make me miserable and not grant my heart desires, just the way I wanted?

Isn’t that the way a lot of us are? We want Him, but only in small doses. He should show up just long enough to grant us our next break through, kill our enemies or perform whatever bidding catches our fancy.

God is a Man of integrity, He owes no one. Whatever you give God, He will greatly multiply. Be it your life, your gifts and skills, your money, your children, your marriage. . . whatever you offer to the Father whole heartedly, (for God loves a cheerful giver).

The scripture is full of people who gave to God unreservedly. Abraham gave Isaac, Hannah gave Samuel, David gave his praise, Solomon gave the money and livestock, Mary Magdalene gave her most expensive perfume and her worship, the early Christians gave to the furtherance of the gospel . .  whatever you give to God wholeheartedly, He will multiply greatly. Time, life, wealth, kids, marriage, work, strength. Whatever you hand over to the Father will be greatly multiplied.
