A Grateful Heart

A grateful heart – is this what God wants?

Indeed it is! Gratitude has many benefits – to the giver and recipient. Gratitude is taking the time to acknowledge and show appreciation for what you have been given. God does so much for us. His manifold blessings are new every morning. Sometimes, we can forget to take the time to stop and take it all in. And express appreciation and gratitude. I’m meditating today about making a grateful heart a way of life.

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

(1 Thessalonians 5:18; KJV)

What would that look like?

Firstly, you can’t appreciate what you do not notice. A gratitude journal is always a great idea! I’ve recently taken to jotting answers to prayers, and as many blessings as I can remember. Whenever I feel low and need a pick me up, I go back and read about the great acts of God in my life. Oh I can tell you, nothing kindles your faith better than this!

So today, I pray that God blesses us with a grateful heart. Teach me, Lord to say thank you. Teach me to take stock of my blessings. Teach me to look at the things that I have been given and not obsess about the things that haven’t been achieved yet.

Teach me to stop and look at all You have done. So many blessings given even before I asked. Thank you for daily protection. I am grateful for strength to carry on when I thought I could not. I am even more grateful for so many prayers answered. Teach me, Lord to stop and take notice of all these and more.

My heart felt prayer today

Bless me with a grateful heart, Lord. A heart that acknowledges all You so freely give. One that also acknowledges the graciousness of the lovely people you’ve put in my life. Bless me with a grateful heart, today O Lord.

Amen.
