“This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”- Hebrews 10:16 (NIV)
I won’t understand this Generation Z – I give up. The more I try, the more obvious it is that I’m clearly from a different zone – maybe planet, at this rate.
I recently asked a Gen Z to teach me how to send a DM on Twitter – you should have seen the look of incredulity on her lovely face – LOL. You would have thought I was asking her to teach me letters of the alphabet. Well. . .
And no, this is not just about the Snap Chats and Insta feeds and Whisper or the fact that private parts of their lives have now become public thanks to social media.
In my bid to take my head out of the sand, I did try to follow
a couple of Gen Z twitter accounts. The contents of which I can’t replay here. Trust me, you wouldn’t want me to type that out here.
Because I have young children, I have begun praying and soul searching – Lord, what happened? How did these kids become so crude, vulgar and aware of the ways of the world? Why do they lose thier sweetness and innocence so early? Where does the bitterness, shallowness and promiscuity come from?
Are thier parents aware? What can we do differently? How can we better protect and shield our children? Oh Lord! I’m praying that our children know you for them selves. Just like you called Samuel and Daniel and David from youth, please pull on the heart strings of our children. I’m ever so aware of our limitations as parents.
So today I pray these verses for our children, O Lord. Write your words on their hearts. Let them know you for themselves – the power of a personal relationship with God will propel them even when others stumble. Give them strength and courage in their convictions and help them hold on to the truth ever so fiercely.
And let it be so (Amen)
