Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come (I Timothy 4: 7-8)
Have you ever worked towards a fitness goal? Be it weight loss, build muscle, get toned, or increase strength – whatever.
It’s never easy. It’s a lot of commitment, sweat, hard work and showing up especially when you don’t feel like it. But then the results come, and you know that all the hard work was worth it!
Here’s a scripture giving us a new fitness goal – train yourself to be godly. We’re training ourselves to conform to the laws and commands of God – that’s what it means to be godly. We’re training our wills to submit to His will. We’re training our hearts to be more in tune with his Spirit so we can hear Him better and clearer.
Like physical exercise – this will not be easy too. It’ll be a lot of commitment and doing what’s right especially when you don’t feel like it.
The bible, prayer, obedience, discipline, humility are some of the tools that’ll help us achieve this fitness goal. It helps to have training buddies – people with the same goal so we can encourage each other. We find them in church, in bible study groups or even in our work places.
Oh and there’s a reward – the scripture promises that we’ll enjoy the reward both in this present life and the life to come. The reward of a life totally yielded to the will of the Father.
Lord, help us to stay focused and disciplined as we work towards this goal.
Shalom
