Mathew 6:25-34
‘But more importantly, put God’s work first and do what He wants. Then the other things will be yours as well’ (CEV).
I know how it feels to want something really bad. Something you can’t get for yourself. Something you need God to help you get. I know first hand how easy it is to obsess and stay fixated on just this one part of your life.
I know how it feels to view life through small needs-colored glasses. I know how it feels to spend hours feeling and thinking like a victim, because a need hasn’t been met. I know the tormenting thoughts that follow, the anxiety and worry about whether God will show up. I mean, what if He doesn’t? What happens then? More disturbing worrying thoughts usually follow this stage.
Today, Jesus brings us liberty. He says do not worry about your life, do not worry about tomorrow. God surely loves you much more than the birds and the flowers, and if He takes such good care of them, He’ll take better care of you. Stop fretting.
Instead He asks that we put God’s work first and do what He wants. Seek Him first. Take your eyes off your worries for a bit. This might be a bit too hard. So take it one day at a time. Every day you wake up, decide your not going to fixate on your problems. Decide you won’t complain or worry, a few hours at a time, one day at a time.
We will seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. We will mind His business, then He will mind ours. Even if He doesn’t mind ours, we will still mind His business. #that’s how we roll.
Shalom
