“Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel. .” (Ephesians 6:19, NIV)
Our pastors have their work cut out for them. Leading and tending the flock of God. Encouraging all to grow, flourish and be all that God’s called them to be.
Now that’s hard because we are all human and innately flawed. That sentence alone might as well explain it all.
We should pray for our pastors and church leaders. Lately I’ve been reading and the general consensus seems to be that the church is losing its ‘saltiness’, its voice and its power for impact. Its voice in the society is being drowned by greed, worldliness, exaltation of self, and multiplication of sin.
This is not a political essay to argue for or against the premise. This is just a call to us all to spend a lot more time praying for the church of God. Especially its leadership. Especially the pastors.
Let us pray that Pastors would remain servants, humble and wise, totally yielded to the Master. We pray too that they be filled with the Holy Spirit, able to always discern truth from the depravity that fills the world today and able to lead God’s people into that truth. We pray for boldness to speak the Word in season and out of season, to be unwavering and courageous.
We pray for their physical and emotional needs too. We pray for all round wholeness, good health and provision. We thank You Lord for their families – spouses and children and ask that You keep them all in perfect peace even as their hearts are stayed upon You.
Help our Pastors/Leaders to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and the needs of the people they shepherd. Help them to point men to You, and deliver them from the temptation to take Your glory for themselves.
In the end, may You find them to be worthy stewards and may You say of them: “Well done good and faithful servant”.
Selah.
