Psalm 90:17
“May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the works of our hands”
When I ask God to establish the work of my hands, I’m asking Him to bless my work, to make it useful and relevant to His purposes, to use it to bless the lives of others and most importantly, to make the fruits of my labour outlive me. Lord, let my work keep bearing fruit and being a blessing long after I’m old and grey and gone to be with You.
Help us to see our work as our calling, one that must be done with all seriousness and excellence. Put us on the right path, work wise – doing what it is You have called us to do.
I really do not want to be one of those people who lives for the weekend. I don’t want to spend my life doing something I have absolutely no interest in. Funny how a lot of people I know (and many more I do not know) are doing just that. I know firsthand the frustration that comes from this.
So Lord, in addition to establishing the work of my hands, help me find joy and fulfilment in what I do. Help me be passionate and enthusiastic about it. For how can I excel at something I see as drudgery?
Shalom.
