Genesis 2: 8-20
God gave Adam authority to name all of His creation, and whatever Adam called each living creature, that became its name! (Verse 8). Jesus came to restore us to our place of dominion and authority in God, so all the authority Adam had in the garden, we have!! Yes, we have now, in this sin raven, war mongering world. We have been restored to our pre fall state, thanks to Jesus.
So with this power we have been given, what do you call situations around you? The Lord taught me this in a wonderful way. Recently we moved into a really beautiful new house. And while I quickly reeled out new rules for our new bedroom and snapped up all the available storage space, my husband had quietly moved his things into the guest room, trying to avoid a confrontation. He began using the bathroom in the guest room, probably because the house was still upside down and boxes were not yet fully unpacked and all. Only our bedroom had a bed, all four of us squeezed on that bed the first few nights. I guess it was much easier for the young man.
But i’d noticed, and i was slightly hurt. And one day, I was talking to the kids; your daddy is in his new room, he’s moved out of our room’, and the Lord prompted my heart! Be careful what you call it! What you call it is what it will be! Ofcourse, I corrected myself immediately! Its the guest room, mum and daddy still share a bedroom.
This may seem small, and not a big deal. But the principle is the same.
Your daughter in law has a couple of miscarriages, and you call her barren/unfruitful? Your business struggles in its early stages and you call it difficult and impossible? Are you facing challenges at work, in your marriage with your children? Have you already given the lump in your breast a name before you get to the doctor? Are you calling yourself loser, defeated, confused, impoverished?
Whatever comes your way today, whatever you face today, be careful what you call it, for what you call it is what it will be.
