Day 26

Mark 6: 30-44

This is the story of the little boy with 5 loaves and 2 fish. When my daughter was younger, she had a rather interesting version of the story. ‘Jesus fed 5 thousand million people with 5 breads and 2 fishes’. Whatever darling, at least we agree He fed a whole lot of people, whatever the number. Lol.

Something about this story’s struck me though. It’s the little boy who owned the bread and fish. The meal most likely wasn’t fresh anymore, because they’d been out there with Jesus all day. He probably wasn’t the only one in the multitude who had some kind of food/snack on him, however small and insignificant. I wonder, what made him give out his food?  Did he honestly think Jesus could feed a multitude with 5 loaves and 2 fish?  Wasn’t he afraid that he’d go hungry, if Jesus and His disciples decided to eat all the food themselves and not give him any? What was he thinking as he offered up his little quota to the Master? I bet God sure beat his wildest expectations. I can imagine his eyes growing wide in amazement and surprise at what God did with his little offering.

Hmm, no wonder Jesus said we must be like little children, to enter the kingdom of heaven. How often have we limited a move of God through us just because ‘everything’ wasn’t in place? I don’t write well enough to use my gift to glorify God, I don’t sing or pray well enough or whatever excuse we offer to make us sleep better at night.

I once wanted to help out a guy. When I heard the amount of money he needed to solve his problem, I screamed. You want to kill me?! Truth be told, what I had was just a paltry 20% of what he needed urgently, and I just felt why bother?

Has God been dropping stuff in your heart lately? What’s been your excuse? I’m not good enough, I don’t have enough time/money/guts/support or whatever? Remember the story of the little boy who trusted that God could use his little meal to feed ‘five thousand million’ people, and know that really, thou art inexcusable o (wo)man
