Luke 21:19
Like Peter on the mount of transfiguration, I felt pretty much the same way recently. I was at a women’s retreat, and there was a lot of laughter and fellowship among the women who attended. We did a couple of team building exercises so every one felt connected and really, it was great.
I prayed silently: Lord, let’s stay here. Don’t let’s go home. It’s beautiful and wonderful. Not that I really wanted to abandon my husband and children and all my other commitments outside, it had just really been a tough couple of weeks leading to the retreat. I told God, life’s too hard out there, please let’s stay here. . .
So Peter, if you’re listening. I get you totally! But the real work is done in the trenches, in the rough places of life. God is honored when you choose to glorify and obey Him even when it’s not easy or convenient. He needs his foot soldiers out there, sharing the good news of the kingdom, living godly exemplary lives and finishing His work. We are laborers in His vineyard after all.
So gird up your loins, dear sister. There’s much work to be done, and the end is near. May the Lord strengthen and encourage you, may He hold your hand and give you grace for your race. May you always know and be assured of His love and His presence with you. And may He receive you at the end of your race, saying ‘well done good and faithful servant. Come and enter into your rest.’
Shalom
