Daniel 2: 28-30
So this young man Daniel, full of integrity continues to be an example to us today of godly character. In today’s reading, he had prayed to God to reveal the details of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, thus sparing his life and the lives of all the other wise men, advisors and astrologers in the Kingdom at the time.
Here’s a breakdown of the back ground (I’m feeling all rhymy today, LOL):
- There was a problem. The King was going to kill them all if no one could tell and interpret his dream. Daniel could have sat with all the others and complained about how evil and irresponsible the king was, he could have given up, resigned to his fate, prepared for death. In other words, he could have done nothing. Thank God he didn’t.
- He went to God with the problem. There is nothing too difficult for God. No problem or mystery too complicated or too deep for our God to unravel. He is Omniscient, the One who knows the end from the beginning. Faced with an impossible situation? Pray. Pray. Pray.
- God answered the prayers of Daniel and his friends. He revealed the dream to Daniel while he was sleeping. Daniel woke up armed with the key to his life literally and lavished praise on God.
- Now, this is the part I love best. He went to the king, and gave all the credit and glory to God for revealing the dream. This is probably where I would have failed the test if I were Daniel. In the court of the most powerful king of his day, he freely acknowledged God’s wisdom and power and told all loudly, about the God in heaven who can reveal mysteries.
I must learn to give glory to God. To give Him the credit (both publicly and privately) for the things He has done and continues to do – things I could never do by my own strength. I must learn to step out of God’s limelight and be content in the shadow of His wings. For it is only through Him, that I can do all things.
Selah.
