Proverbs 9: 9-12

‘Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still. . . .’ (Verse 9, NIV)

How responsible/accountable have I been with all I have read and learned so far? With all the knowledge God has made available to me? With all He has taught me and shown me?

How many have I applied? How many have I allowed to rust and gather moss on the sea bed of my heart? A wise and righteous man adds to his learning. He uses it, takes it further, applies it, meditates and reflects on it (not necessarily in that order, though). He perfects his learning by reason of use (fancy words, I know, but this simply means practise makes perfect).

Remember, every one hears, but it’s only those who do, that are blessed. Blessed with the benefits of applying the knowledge they have been taught. These are the wise people – blessed, wise people. No wonder it goes on to say in verse 11, ‘through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life’(NIV). Acknowledging the fear of God in all areas of your life, submitting to and correctly applying His principles in all areas of your life will keep you in the path of life. (Proverbs 3: 1-2).

There is a blessing in correctly applying God’s word and increasing in wisdom – long life, peace and prosperity.
