2 Chronicles 26:1-23

I’m still not quite over Uzziah. I read his story and can’t help thinking that could easily be me, letting success and wealth get into my head. Uzziah’s downfall was not caused by unfaithfulness alone; pride played a major role too.

God opposes everyone who is proud, but He blesses all who are humble with undeserved grace (James 4:6, CEV). God will fight against, resist and antagonize all who are proud! Who can resist God and succeed? Pride is an inflated sense of one’s personal status or accomplishments (Wikipedia). Pride makes us think we are sufficient of ourselves and do not need God. Pride will not recognize the help of God, or the grace of God in our accomplishments, that we really are nothing without Him. Pride will never admit we are nothing!

I’ve thought about why God hates pride so much. Beth Moore, bible study author says one reason is because pride dethrones God and puts ourselves at the centre of our universe. Pride slights God.

Hmm. . .

Pride proofing our lives would mean us always remembering that we are really not that special, it’s all about God. Pride proofing our lives would mean us be able to accept correction from anyone (no one is too small or beneath you to correct you). Pride proofing our lives would mean keeping people around us who’d remind us of these very often.

The Lord help us all.

Shalom.
