Jeremiah 7:9-11

Few weeks ago, I met a dear Christian lady. I’d gone to buy some food stuff from her and I heard her inflate the prices to another customer over the phone, while motioning me to be silent and cooperate with her lies.

To my shame and disgrace, I did. I should have spoken up, I know better, I kept berating myself on the way home. I had just consented to another person being cheated, and I knew exactly how God felt about it. We were both Christians, this lady and I.

Our relationship with God carries a responsibility! To please Him and uphold His standards every where we go. The Lord warned His people through Jeremiah, in our text today. ‘’Will you steal and murder and commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known, and then come and stand before Me in this house which bears My Name?. . . . . . But I have been watching, declares the Lord.”

This is food for thought, indeed. Are we becoming a generation which wants the benefits of a relationship with the Father, but refuse to shoulder the responsibility the relationship carries? Think about it, why are churches proliferating all over our land, and yet iniquity and lawlessness increasing even more?

Why are our Christians lying brazenly, cheating and stealing? Why are we not standing for integrity and character in our work places, while spending all our spare time in houses of worship, crying our for blessings and breakthrough?

‘. . . . But I have been watching, declares the Lord.’ Remember ‘God’s solid foundation stands firm . . . . . . . Everyone who confesses the  name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness’.

Shalom
