Proverbs 8:6-8
‘Listen for I will speak of excellent things, and from the opening of my mouth will come right things. My mouth will speak truth, wickedness is an abomination to my lips, all the words of my mouth are with righteousness, nothing crooked or perverse in them.’
This is Wisdom speaking, God had created Wisdom even before He made anything else. ‘when there were no depths, i was brought forth’(verse 24), and Wisdom was God’s companion when He was creating the earth.
We know too, from scripture that Christ is the Wisdom of God.
So if you want to hang out with God, if you want to be a companion of the Almighty, then like Wisdom, you must speak excellent and princely things, the opening of your lips must be for right things. Wrongdoing and falsehood must be loathsome and detestable to your lips.
Words must be so very powerful and important, because over and over again in the Word, we find that God is particularly interested in how we use our mouth. He desires that every word we utter be carefully thought through and align with His standard above. God is neither flippant nor careless with His words, therefore we His people cannot but be same.
So here’s what it takes to ‘hang’ out with God, lest you feel it’s too daunting, remember the commandments of the Lord are not grievous.
